Coundurootsis is the reigning World Championship 100m butterfly champion and a member of the Rio 2016 Olympic team.
His victory at the Rio Olympics in Rio de Janeiro came after a long battle with injuries.
He had surgery on his left ankle in December, and in April he finished third in the 400m butterfly and was expected to compete in the Rio Games.
Coundrootis won’t be competing in the 200m in Rio, as he was not able to return to the field in time for the Rio games, but the fact that he won a world championship at the age of 33 should make it easier for him to get a chance to make the 100 meter dash.
